Artist Statement
I can’t imagine not working in clay - it’s a medium that constantly challenges and rewards. Every idea and process, every decision made with the clay and glazes can alter the look and feel of each pot. What seems essential and unique to me in this process is the potter's touch. This touch is personal. It’s a result of every trip I’ve made to a gallery, every pot I’ve held and used and everything I’ve seen around me. It’s the combination of all my life experiences that inform the choices I make as a potter.
Although each pot spends only a few minutes being transformed from a lump of wet clay to a vessel, each pot contains a life-time of aesthetic experience and interest. For me, a successful pot is one that inspires serving a favorite recipe, displaying a beautiful bouquet or enjoying a quiet dinner at home. I make simple pots hoping that using them enhances people’s lives -- enriching celebrations and private moments.
