ARTIST STATEMENT

Making pottery nourishes my spirit and brings me joy.  My pottery begins on the wheel and is then altered to make each pot unique.  I enjoy changing the smooth round form by adding texture to the surface or altering it from round to square or oval.  I may add hand built elements or cut away elements from the original form.  In doing so, I hope to create pots that are alive – intriguing – pots that want to be discovered, touched and used.

My ceramic education has been self-directed with classes at art centers, community colleges and numerous workshops.  Clay offers endless possibilities of pursuit and the more I have learned, the more I want to learn.  I currently work in my home studio with various stoneware clays and glazes I have gathered and tweaked to suit my work.  I fire at 2200 degrees in an oxidation atmosphere.  All of my functional work is food, oven and dishwasher safe.
